Little Ship Club
The Little Ship Club is a haven for sailors in the heart of the City of London.
With Mike Golding as President and a 90-year history of supporting sailors on and off the water, the club offers:
Training courses, including RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster;
Weekly lectures on a wide variety of nautical topics;
A riverside restaurant and bar;
Exceptional value accommodation;
Access to the library, online resources and crew lists;
Socials, quizzes, shanty evenings and much more!
In addition to its London based-activities, the Little Ship Club also organises a programme of sailing that includes not only regular Solent and East Coast regattas, but also rallies around the world. As well as plenty of opportunities for people to get their own boats wet, the club also runs crew lists and programmes to get novices out on the water.
Founded in 1926 as a ‘yachtsman’s study circle’, the Little Ship Club’s training classes were soon so highly regarded that they were used to train members of the Royal Naval Supplementary Volunteer Reserve. In recognition, the First Sea Lord invited the Club to apply for its own blue ensign – the only known instance of such an invitation being made. Just a few years later, several club members participated in the Dunkirk evacuation. Although many survived, to this day there is a tattered Little Ship Club ensign hanging in a frame on the wall at the club with the poignant legend: “Found on the beach at Dunkirk – owner unknown”.
Today, the club is a vibrant hub in the heart of London with a community that extends across the world.
