Sailing BoatsBlue Water CruisersAlan PapeKetch by David WalkeyAvrea saw the light in Gweek near Falmouth, Cornwall, England in 1989. Built over the course of three years in a yard famous for exquisite classic and traditional wooden boatbuilding work was supervised by renowned naval architect Alan Pape. Avrea was commissioned and built without any compromise by master shipwright David Walkey. He constructed her using only the best Iroko, teak and mahogany panels available. Avrea is beautifully carvel-planked in Iroko with copper fastening and stainless steel screws. The deck is teak with detailing of Mahogany. Until 2017 she had benefitted from having been in one family ownership from new, having always been fastidiously and lovingly maintained. In 2017 and 2018 she underwent several major restorations by her current enthusiastic owner who has undertaken a sympathetic update of paint, rig and systems since when he has enjoyed the extensive Med tour he had planned. She is now equipped with all the latest, most modern electronics, such as a Raymarine Axiom Pro plotter, AIS, a Raymarine Quantum radar and a Whitlock autopilot, all without interfering with her classical appearance. Her interior boasts a sensational saloon, separate dining and galley. large owners suite aft, v-cabin forward as well as an excellent twin passage cabin between the owners suite and saloon. Her ketch rig is powerful yet manageable short-handed. Sensational deck spaces and really a very usable classic. EOS is a truly state of the art performance catamaran, designed by Greg Young and completed to the highest level of quality with the best possible materials. EOS is 100% carbon from her hulls to her interior – she even has carbon toilets! – making this stunning high performance cat strong, stylish and FAST!
Words from the Designer Greg Young: We have been proud to be part of this project ; the German workmanship and accuracy of this build is simply outstanding, the best we have ever encountered anywhere. The design started as a progression from the TAG 60, but with all custom integration and wishes required by an experienced owner. 100% carbon everywhere, bowsprit, cabins : This is a state of the art vessel and the first Young Yacht Design to feature a reverse or axe bow design. The hull shape is exceptionally fast, with low rocker, high water plane, plus lots of balanced buoyancy forward, fine waterlines and yet it is able to be pushed very hard into waves, to pitch much less than conventional designs and with its deep angled asymmetrical daggerboards, it will sail to windward and deliver to the helmsman a stunning performance. The interior is reasonably modest yet features stunning forward views through vertical, opening windows; easy access everywhere, no hidden part, strong, secure. Light air performance is very important and in this respect, the vessel features our trademark light air headsail configuration that sets it apart from other designs.
