Annatasia is a 40’ steel cutter ketch designed by Cecil Boden and built in New Zealand. She is a blue water boat strongly built and meticulously maintained until two years ago when her original owner, a professional engineer and welder, fell into poor health and could not spend as much time aboard. She is currently hauled out in Beaufort, NC and awaiting necessary repairs though she is well equipped for extensive cruising and voyaging once her hull is sound once again.
Annatasia offers excellent stability and strength with a deep elongated fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and cambered flush deck. The hull, bulkheads, and deck are all welded steel and in good condition above the water line. There are however several holes and sections of rusted plate below the waterline in the salon. The current owner has gained access to these areas from the interior and expects that it would not be difficult for someone with welding experience to replace the plate. The sections with holes are mainly in two areas 5′ x 1′ where the (now removed) water and diesel tank tops trapped water against the hull and allowed corrosion to develop. There are also four or five other areas smaller than 1′ square where spot rust has made it through the hull. This is the biggest issue Annatasia currently faces and she is otherwise ready to sail away after getting a fresh coat of paint. She is equipped with a 55 hp Fordson diesel engine that runs very well with a Borg Warner velvet drive transmission and is easily accessed through several hatches and removable panels around the engine room. Steering is hydraulic and pedestal-mounte
Her sails include a functional fore staysail, drifter, main, and mizzen as well as the remnants of a jib that needs replacing. The sails are getting old but are still serviceable and brought her on a 1200-mile passage to North Carolina last October before her current refit. All sails have custom-fitted covers and bags. Deck-stepped aluminum masts need new paint but show no signs of electrolysis or stress. Her stainless steel wire standing rigging is also old but massively strong, having kept the rig up through four hurricanes in the last several years when other boats nearby lost theirs. Terminals are largely Norsemen fittings, which can be reused if the boat is re-rigged. Running rigging is 3-strand nylon and polyester less than four years old. Blocks all in working condition.
Below deck Annatasia includes two bunks in the forward cabin, two salon pilot berths, and a spacious double berth in the aft cabin. The interior is finished in beautiful mahogany and is surprisingly spacious and bright in part due to the high gloss white Formica headliner and large butterfly hatch in the salon. Head is manual flush and water is manual as well with both fresh and salt pumps for the custom fiberglass sink in the galley. Sole is oak parquet in the forward cabin and vinyl tile elsewhere. The salon and head sole as well as the diesel and water tanks have been removed to gain access to the areas that need welding and will all need replacing. There is abundant storage throughout the boat in cabinets and lockers under the bunks and settees as well as good ventilation through the deck hatches.
Navigation equipment includes:
-Autohelm ST 6000 autopilot
-Garmin 120XL GPS
-Furuno 1621 MKII radar
-Icom VHF radio
-2 solar panels
-4 battery house bank plus separate engine start battery
-Spare stainless steel drive shaft
-65 lbs. Bruce anchor with 200 ft. chain rode and manual anchor windlass
-35 lbs. Danforth anchor with nylon rode
-Docklines and fenders
-Sumner 8 dinghy with oars & sailing kit
Potentially part of sale: all the tools needed to continue work
-Dewalt angle grinder and drill
-Black and Decker jig saw
-Many hand tools
-Screws, nuts, bolts, spares, etc.
While the current owner would like to see Annatasia through to the end of her refit, he will be moving due to work and it will be highly inconvenient to continue working aboard. She is a project boat at the moment but can be lived aboard at the yard where she is hauled. She needs a fair amount of work and would be great for someone handy who is willing to put in the time to get her sailing again, ideally someone with welding skills. Questions and offers encouraged.
